Parent Teacher Organization

MISSION STATEMENT: To enhance and support the educational experience, develop a closer connection between school and home by encouraging parental involvement, and improve the school environment through volunteer initiatives and fundraising.

The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) supports Georgetown International Academy (GIA) in establishing communication and cooperation in the school community, encouraging parent involvement through social and cross cultural enrichment activities and raising money for the benefit of the school.

The Parent Teacher Organization keeps busy and active. We have many parents who give their time and energy to help with events, classroom activities, fundraisers and the various duties that make the PTO run smoothly and efficiently. The PTO includes both parents and staff as well as an Executive Committee of elected parents that lead and coordinate the PTO functions. This Committee consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Marketing Representative and several grade specific Liaison members.

The Executive Committee recruits membership in the PTO, oversees various committees and fundraising in an official capacity, makes decisions about disbursement of PTO funds, responds to teacher and staff requests for PTO assistance and communicates PTO actions to the GIA community. These responsibilities are divided among the Executive Committee members.

All parents are encouraged to become actively involved in the PTO. Membership dues are GYD $5000 per academic year, and parents can join at any time. Monthly PTO meetings are open to all parents regardless of membership status, but only paid members can vote on official business matters or hold a position on the Executive Committee.
